Berlin is the hippest city I’ve visited in Europe, and it definitely shows in the city’s growing coffee scene. You can find trendy cafes on almost every corner, with each having its own unique vibe.
Here you can find the 5 best aesthetic cafes to take a coffee break in-between exploring the best hidden gems in Berlin!
Perfect for: design lovers and Instagrammers, this cafe is beyond beautiful!
Bonanza Coffee Roasters has been a local favorite since 2006 and has two locations in Berlin. The newer location is in the hip and a bit grungy neighborhood of Kreuzberg and is truly a hidden gem, located in a quiet alleyway.
The cafe is inside a renovated factory building with plenty of natural light, plants, and seating.
The most unique part about the coffee shop is you can watch the coffee roasting process through the large glass windows while sipping your latte or eating one of the artisanal pastries.
If you love Bonanza Coffee as much as I do be sure to take a bag of their freshly roasted beans to transport you back to Berlin wherever you are.
Perfect for: a quick cheesecake or coffee break right in the hustle and bustle
Five Elephant is a staple in the Berlin coffee scene for its wide range of tasty coffee blends that are all sourced in an environmentally friendly way.
You also can't forget to try Five Elephant's renowned Philadelphia-style cheesecake made with homemade cream cheese.
With three locations throughout Berlin, I suggest checking out the centrally located cafe in the popular Mitte shopping district.
Five Elephant is the perfect place to refuel after browsing the shops.
Perfect for: weekend brunch lovers and digital nomads during the week
Hallesches Haus is a unique hybrid cafe, brunch spot, and boutique located in the hipster Kreuzberg neighborhood.
Located in a former post office, Hallesches Haus not only offers visitors a stunning interior to enjoy their superb coffee and weekend brunch but also has a shop with beautifully designed products for sale.
I recommend trying their smoked salmon and avocado bruschetta with a maple latte for the perfect brunch with friends before exploring the nearby indoor market, Markthalle Neun.
Perfect for: coffee enthusiasts, everything is roasted onsite and the beans are held to a high standard
The Visit Roastery is also located in Kreuzberg, which I officially coined the cool cafe district of Berlin.
This cafe attracts both creative locals and visitors alike for its courtyard and open seating plan, ideal for collaborating and people watching.
The cafe is in a prime location, a minute walk away from the bustling Kottbusser Tor and just around the corner from Voo Store, the most fashionable concept store in the city.
Perfect for: supporting fair trade businesses and those seeking a zen setting
Isla Coffee not only a beautiful cafe and go-to weekend brunch spot for Berliners, most importantly Isla Coffee is proud to be a leader in practicing zero waste initiatives.
All of the cafe's furniture and coffee cups are made from recycled coffee grounds and the leftover steamed milk is reused to make ricotta cheese and bread pudding offered on the brunch menu.
After your coffee and brunch, you can roam the streets the diverse and lively Neukölln neighborhood, which is home to the KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art and several parks to escape from the hustle and bustle.
